THANKS a LOT to Ravengrim, who found among his "old HDs" that bit if a fanant story he made 🤩
Too bad it does not go farther ☹️
Oh, I have the whole Viking story, It's an amazing piece of work (also, a decently long read in itself). I've mentioned it before. I have it on my computer back home, along with some more works from Ravengrim and Andrew, Both of them cooperated on some things as far as I remember. I'll send you the files as soon as I can reach them (might take a month or two, I have to get out of the Australian bush first and get back to Europe).
Thank you… hopefully this site will still be alive by then! It has been OFF again two weeks in a row. Seemed to be the certificate not being renewed 🙁
It seems that either Jeremy or a friend of his is periodically checking and fixing the issues, albeit, not as often as we'd like it. For now let's hope for the best, and let's do what we can.
We can do nothing when the site is down…
Chapter 1 "A rare Bird", Chapter 1 is an introduction to the story, The comic started with chapter 2.
It was a beautiful night. As custom from some time since Niklas became sincere about his affections and worries with his two best friends, and Martin, found himself accompanied with Jason. Fabian was invited, of course, but his recurrent Jeremy's thoughts made him refuse: simply he wasn't on the mood for company that night, less to grieve in other's house than his. Niklas and Jason understood perfectly, and, although reticently, were enough good friends for giving him space, but just a little, so these periods of his don't make themselves permanent. Missing him but loving him anyways, that vacation summer night found them lying on Niklas' bed, with his owner watching the sky, while Jason caressed softly his host's back with the palm of his hand.
-Oh, Jason! How long you want to avoid talking with Jonathon about how you feel? - Niklas whispered.
-Dunno, Nikki, dunno – answered softly – it's not that easy, you know it.
-But Jason, it's kinda obvious what's going on there, and, soon or later, will get noticed by someone else...
-Nikki, i know, but, what will happen if Sniv gets notice? He's his best friend too. I don't wanna make them fight... or get apart... or to have to argue with him.
-Jason, Sniv understands better than you think, you don't give him enough credit! - replied on a worried tone – I would be way more hurt if my big brother hide his feelings from me...
-But Niklas, this is different! You don't know...
Jason stopped right there. To reproach his lack of brothers was a low blow.
-Oh Nikki, i'm sorry, i didn't want to mean...
-Yeah, whatever.
Niklas focused his attention on the skies, trying to forget about what was said. Jason tried to make ammendements caressing with both hands his friend's back and some of bum.
-It's just i don't think before saying stupid things... i would never mean to hurt you. - And kissed his friend's cheek.
-I know you didn't, Jason.. but hurts anyway. It's so unfair!
-Nikki, it's more difficult than that. But i know you'll love me always!
-You give yourself and your hands so much credit! - answered giving him a mischievous glance. And jumped above him starting a fight over the bed, but trying to be silent on middle of all the chuckles. Switching one above the other, on a two minute short deploy of strengt and cunning, the contenders ended as always: Niklas beneath on his belly and Jason above. And Niklas loved that outcome, by the way.
-Uff! It's me or it's hot inside? - said Niklas trying to crawl to the window.
-Hey, you will not slide! - Jason grabbed him from behind to “prevent him escape”.
-Oh, c'mon Jason, i'm serious, hehe.. -and reached with his arms and a Jason on his back to the window, opening it. A fresh wind entered the boy's room, and Niklas relaxed watching again the stars, now on his back, and Jason's on top... (you expected different anyways?).
-Nikki, when you will win a fight? - asked Jason with a smile – You can't lose always. It's not funny, you know?
-And why have to win? If i have such good friends like you, you should defend me, or not? - replied on a mocking tone.
-And if i'm not near?
-Well, Fabi will have to save me!
-An if Fabi's depressed as now?
-Emm... well, i guess i'll call some friendly alien who's passing by to help me!
-Aww c'mon, get some serious! I'm trying to get to a point from here!
-But why? You know i hate to fight. Bullies, fighting sports, yeech! Why have i to pretend being stronger if i like the way i am? And to watch the stars, and satellites... and clouds... and... a rainbow surfing longboat!?
-Yeah and that's all right, but you have to think that... what?
-Yeah! It's a longboat! On the sky! Onto a some sort of rainbow! On middle of the night?!
-Aww Niklas... you seriously snapped! - gave him a bored glance.
Niklas released from Jason and grabbed his head to make him face to the sky. Jason opened his mouth as if were to fall off his jaw.
It was onto a high speed. A faint but clearly visible segment of a rainbow crossed above the firmament and, over it, a distinctive shape of a Drakkar, going on descendent angle to the local forest. Until dissapeared and, apparently, crashed far in the woods on river's direction.
Passed a couple of minutes when the two friends did'nt even moved a muscle. They were hugging each other almost without notice it. Then Niklas reacted.
-Jason, please tell me that you saw it? - Jason was not there, not in mind, anyways. Was lost on all his lessons and experiences about how things work on this world, and that, by some obviously logical operation, what he did saw wasn't possible to happen. Atmospherical baloon? Weird plane? Some kind of migratory bird? Maybe. Over a glowing rainbow in middle of night? Seriously?!
-JASON!
-Eh.. ejem.. what?
-Tell me that you DID saw that, please?!
-Emm... i shouldn't, because it can't be what i saw what crossed the sky by there... a bird?
-Bird my butt, Jason! That thing was a boat! Over a rainbow!
Niklas couldn't believe the skepticism of his friend. And if were a few things that Niklas could drive to anger, that his best friend didn't believe what he saw even being himself there seeing it too, was one of the first ones!
-C'MON! React, dammit!
-Ok, ok! I just need more... research, and... ejem...
-We have to go for Fabi! And go to find the crash site!
-Wow, what? Why?
-Jason! It could be some hurt people there!
-Niklas, we don't even know what was that thing! Could be anything! Even dangerous! Maybe it's already on fire, or his ocuppants, dunno...
-Or could be a crashed longboat with wounded people suffering! You catch me?!
-Ok, you got a point – now more reflexive but with certain skepticism anyhow. - Now what we can do at this hour of the night? We will not see anything, not even the road, and by what we saw, that thing fell way afar from here! We cannot reach at this hour, even if we wished for it. Besides, if that thing was tripulated, somebody would have called firefighters or the police!
Jason was right. Even if they could leave the house unnoticed by everyone, they would not see any landmark on the darkness and, even more, surely get lost on the forest. Niklas was furious and worried. Furious because Jason was right, and worried because he wouldn't get to sleep knowing that could be someone in need of help out there, and was nothing he could do for them.
Niklas grabbed his own legs and got serious, trying to think some solution to act right now. Ask to dad? Was a choice... in the event that he believed them! Sneak out... punishable and pointless. He was really frustrated; hated the tought of somebody being out there wounded or distressed left without help, and, more importantly, his guts were practically screaming that somebody there needed his help soon. Couldn't avoid to drop a couple of tears on that worried face. Jason noticed him and, kinda surprised about the overreaction of his best friend, tried to calm him with a hug and offering a more than reasonable choice.
-Nikki, don't cry, please! I promise we will go there at the first hour! Now we will pack stuff for treating wounds and food, some water, and we will get out at first hour. We will rest and be ready to go soon. Okay? -Jason caressed tenderly the hair of his friend. He couldn't stand to see him suffer, and would make any trip, no matter the pointless of it, if that made him to feel better.
-*Sob*...okay, Jason... -answered with a real afflicted face.
-Ok, so then we will raise our spirits and hands to work! Oh, no...
-What, Jason?
-I promised to accompany Sniv and Jon to see a movie tomorrow at midday! I almost forgot about that!
-But, Jason!...
-Dont worry, Nikki, i'm sure we will arrive way earlier to the point, and i'll have time for the both! Besides, if not, still you'll be with Fabi to help you!
-Still you... *sob*... think this... is...*sob*... so pointless? - And started to cry again more profusely than before. Now more upset and sad at noticing the apparent lack of interest of his friend for his worries.
-No, please, Nikki, really, stop it... aww sorry... oh c'mon man! - tried to confort him as best as he could, until he lost his patience - Hey! If you want so much to go there, then start packing now, and maybe your parents let us go to Fabi's right now before gets too late!
Niklas reacted about Jason's suggestion, and regained his composture.
-You're right. Let's put hands to work. - And then the kids started to gather some bandages and alcohol from the bathroom, band aids, adhesive tape, even some food cans and bread from the kitchen, and everything was heard by Niklas's dad, that was reading a newspaper on the living room. Eventually he had to ask the boys about all the fuzz. Jason answered that they had forgotten today they supposed to be with Fabian, and they needed some of their stuff for some charity work next day. After a brief speech about how they should have asked for that stuff before actually taken it, he offered to accompany them to Fabi's house, due to the hour. The kids were ok with that, even a little more reliefed as was some adult to take care of them for such travel and, after wearing appropiated clothing, went out to Fabi's.
As Dad saw them knocking Fabi's door, and checking the door actually opened, got back to home to keep reading his newspaper.
-Ah! Niklas and Jason! Please go in, darlings! - said Fabi's mom after opening the door. She was about to ask them why the visit so late at night, but she really was hoping someone of Fabi's friend came to visit him that night. She could handle many of his son's aspects, and have been succesfull on most of them, but his child's character and his stubborn moods were something that she never had feel the capacity to handle well.
- Fabi's on his room, by the way. Dont know if he's awoke, though.
After greeting Mrs. Waitaweill, Niklas and Jason went to Fabi's room. As expected, was sitting on his bed with his head down and his earphones on, without music. Got surprised by his friend's presence, but more by seeing their expressions. And, sincerely, he would have prefered not be seen with his face stained on tears.
-Guys! What are you doing here? We don't supossedly agreed on...?
-Fabi! - interrupted Niklas - you have to help us!
-To help you? On what, at this hour?
Niklas related him what they saw some moments before. And the urge to go there to find survivors. Fabi was baffled, and didn't know if put to laughter or be angry for such impertinence. It has all the appearances of a bad joke, but, somehow, felt too elaborated to be just imagination. Then he remembered his drug prevention classes, and what first came out from him was:
-You guys! You are not supposed to try that stuff until...
-Fabi, for god's sake! We are serious! Jason, please, say something!
Jason until that moment had not said word at all. Still was trying to convince himself that what he saw was some kind of delusion, but couldn't connect with that hypothesis. Suddenly he realized the faces of an almost despaired Niklas and a most intrigued Fabi looking right at him. And didn't even understood what were they asking to him.
-You know what? Forget it! I'll go right now, myself, alone! - And Niklas headed right to the door. Then Jason reacted to stop him.
-Wait, Nikki, please! - hugging him and struggling a little to contain him – You'll only get lost there! I have told you that i will go with you at the first light!
-Niklas, it's not that i don't believe you, but please understand me! I'm still trying to understand what you just said to me! - remarked Fabi – As Jason said, we will go, but we will stick to his plan, dont get mad about it! You're kinda obsessed, and you are getting us far worried about!
Niklas caved in. He was out of his nerves beyond a reasonable proportion, and didn't even know why. But for some reason he felt a lot of concern, and the urge to do something about it... but what and why?
Jason and Fabi knew his friend was very emotional at times, but, beyond the fact that caused all this situation, they were puzzled about Niklas himself. So they gave a look between themselves and Fabi took the initiative:
-C'mon Niklas, get onto bed... - Niklas let himself to be driven towards it – That's right, Nikki. Lay down, rest, sleep... tomorrow we will go, i promise. - Caressed a little his head until though that Niklas was asleep, and then signaled to Jason to the bathroom, and went both there.
-It's beyond proportion, Jason - said Fabi, visibly upset -, what were you doing there?!
-Nothing bad, i swear! - trying to keep a lower voice – We did some wrestling and kept looking at the sky, and then, happened! It's the true!
-Are you saying to me that you saw that too?
-Yep, that's what i'm saying.
-And if we go there and find nothing?
-Doesn't matter. Niklas wants to go there, and i will go there for him.
Fabi was doing some meditation. After that answered.
-Ok, you're right. We will go there. But i really hope that Niklas just fall asleep and have some rest. I'll go get some stuff for the trip, and then go back to the room. You should go to see if he's ok.
Jason went back to the room and found Niklas sitting on bed, staring him right to the eyes.
-Why don't you believe me, Jason?
-I believe you Niklas, but you are somewhat hysterical! Please calm yourself!
And went to hug his friend by his back, while caressing his hair to soothe him.
-We will always believe you, Nikki... we love you... rest a little, ok?
And Niklas closed his eyes at Jason's warm embrace. But he couldn't sleep at all.
Mind the fact that it's Andrew's work, English wasn't his first language, also, he has a really specific style, and the depictions can be a bit brutal sometimes, but that's necessary for the plot. Some really serious stories are going to come soon, as I've recovered my old computer (my first laptop, the one I got back in 2011 as a teenager).
I'll post this one whole, chapter by chapter, as there are more to come. Much much more. Andrew was a Genius.
Chapter 2, "It was the Kraken!" This comes after the comic part.
(A while ago before the story started... onto another universe.)
-MAKE WAY!!! MAKE WAY!!!
The townsguard at Trondheim were making a fuzz all the way to the Jarl's palace. Six of them were carrying a young boy's body, who they were expecting arrival to port, but in no such deplorable state. The villagers gathering made the transit for the muddy and narrow streets a difficult task, but somehow the transit keep fluent. Some people recognized Thane Narvik at sight: he was beloved among them as a young, brave and just warrior, and some women started crying right there, and the other hurried to make offerings to the gods for his health, or spreading the rumor of "the death of Thane Narvik". Some steps back, helped by a group of Shield Maidens, walking with their heads low, followed Fjonn and Jorven. They were harassed heavily by the mob:
-How could you allow that to happen to your Thane!
-Cowards! Yo should have perished, not him!
-Go back to the sea, scoundrels!
-Kill them! Kill them!
-Such cowardice it's a shame in front of the Gods!
-Odin curse you!
The Shield Maidens were good at their job, and prevented any harm to the young sailors, beside the usual spit on face or thrown rotten vegetable; at least until they arrived to Jarl Thonnen's court. There, their fate would be sealed.
All the group quickly entered the main hall. The medicine men and all sort of druids already were gathered and grabbed the boy's body, starting to do all sorts of praying, elixirs and pomades to reanimate him. But nothing. Jorven and Fjonn were driven to the dungeon, to wait for their trial.
Jarl Thonnen arrived suddenly and very agitated to the palace. Was way younger than Narvik, but no one questioned his ferocity on battle or his command abilities. Went right to Narvik.
-How is he?!
-He's beyond everything we can do, my Jarl. – answered an old medicine man – The damage made by the water has been too deep, and we have been unsuccesfull to determine if he will ever raise again...
-Then determine it or i'll sacrifice all of you to the Gods! Dammit! Somebody even know what happened to him?
-His only companions were two sailors, now in custody, mylord – answered the guardsman's chief.
-Bring them! - ordered inflated by rage.
-Yes, my Jarl! - and proceeded to gather them. The court also was summoned for the trial.
Narvik was sent to a contiguous chamber to be treated, and kept warm. Meanwhile, Jorven and Fjonn waited on the wet, rat-infested and cold dungeon, in chains.
-What could we have done, Fjonn? Against that monster?
-I don't know Jorven. But something i know. Today we will face the God's wrath.- answered a pessimistic Fjonn, looking at a far pack of huge rats fighting for a piece of bread.
-What they will do to us?
-I dont know... i dont care... what matters is that we failed to our Thane, and we will never see Valhalla... or the sunlight, by the matter.
-We must tell them! Some pieces of the Kraken are still on the boat!
-Even if Odin himself had descended to kill Narvik we should have died first, don't you get it?! That's the law!
Jorven couldn't believe his actual situation. On his insights came the disgusting jailor and six guardsman behind him.
-Time to die, you rascals, hehehehe! - sententiated the jailor. Then three guardsman for each one submitted them and dragged them to the main hall on chains.
Jarl Thonnen was sit on his throne with a very unfriendly face. His blonde hair and fine features made a huge contrast with his flushed face and enraged gesture. The courtesans were summoned, too, as every time a capital sentence had to be dicted. Their charges were serious: abandon of the duties to their Thane, allowing him to be near death. And the worse: Narvik was a dear friend of him, and, maybe, the last living hope for his people at all!
Fjonn and Jorven were forced to his knees in middle of everyone.
A silence was made, between the smoke of the braziers, cough of adults and crying of little children.
Jarl Thonnen spoke:
-You are acussed of neglecting your duties to your Thane and your Jarl, allowing Thane Narvik to suffer great and permanent damage, besides a certain death. Why, between all the worthless Thanes i am surrounded everyday, had you failed to him?! He is my friend! My shieldbrother! And you let him perish!!!
No one ever whispered a sound, nor the coughers or little children. Regained some composture after that outburst. He needed it anyways.
-Now tell me: why should i allow you to keep your heads? - and expected answer.
Fjonn had not intentions for speaking. He only cried, looking ashamed the floor. Jorven was not on that mood.
-My Jarl, we were attacked by the Kraken near this very same shores! - The public made a wide noise mixing incredulity, mock and concern.
-And that's the best you could imaginate to save your skin! Rascal! - And then Thonnen took his warhammer and got ready to give a deadly blow to of a terrified Jorven!
But suddenly, the main gates of the hall opened wide, and a couple of figures appeared: one was a scrawny, long brown haired, dirty little kid, holding and guiding and not so old, blonde long and shaggy haired, blindfolded man in a cassock. Everybody knew who was him, and his presence there was, besides unexpected, disturbing.
-Put down that thing on floor before it spills innocent's blood, and be cursed by the gods, Jarl! - spoke with autorithy to the very same Thonnen. He was parlyzed at first, but then, slowly got back at his throne, and dropped it.
-You... where were you when the plague desolated our cattle and made us almost starve the last crop? And you dare to speak that way to me? Right now? - asked a very upset Thonnen, but even he didn't dare to raise his voice to his uninvited guest.
-It's alright, my dear Magnus, wait for me outside – he said to the nervous little kid, and the kid obliged. Now, facing Thonnen, he spoke:
-Loki, Lord of the Tricksters, is not to be bothered with such quibbling, Jarl! So their envoys... as you should know. - smiling nefariously. - Although, his merciful nature is to be seen for all of you through the message i carry! So smile and be happy for a little time! – said to a little kid passing by, who just started crying at the look of his shaggy and blindfolded interlocutor. His mother grabbed to him and pushed against his bossom, terrified.
-Enough! This is a trial, not one of your shows!- Stated Thonnen.
-You are the show, my Jarl, and you make me laugh with your trials and accusations! But lets get to business then, 'cause you're running out of time! - And said that, got close to Jorven and ragged the few remains of clothing from his chest. Everybody saw the marks of the Kraken's tentacle suckers and the wounds and bruises printed on Jorven's torso, and then a rumor of horror and concern spreaded at the hall! Thonnen paled.
-So... it's true...
-And what you expected, my Jarl, a Narwhal attack!? To have defeated your champion? He! - he was starting to lose his little patience – and now the warning... ejem...
He cleared his throath, and then started to scream with a voice from outside his world, or any other!
-Listen to the voice of madness and trickery!!! At the end of this moon and three more to come, the blonde champion who was wounded by the terrible and blessed Kraken and the wrath of the sea shall descend to Helm, and be the eternal guest of Lady Hel! Her name be praised! So there he will stay forever denied Ragnarok and Valhalla!!!
The court exploded in crying and terror. Now not only the little children were crying and screaming. Thonnen, Jorven and Fjonn were colorless.
The oracle continued:
-And when the blonde champion falls from Yggdrassil, the Tree of All the Worlds, and drop onto Helm to lie forever, Lady Hel, oh blessed be thy name!, will lead their host like a fire to climb all of their branches and will burn them all, making all the worlds to fall like rotten fruit! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!
And none shall live or die never again, and Helm and Midgard shall be one within shadow and cinder, FOREVER!!!
The ammount of people dismayed was on the rise, and not just women. Thonnen was outrighly afraid, and didn't reacted at all. He shivered.
-But Loki, merciful lord, from his ties, has pitied about your misery and granted free passage for their chosen to go and find the spark of life that will save Narvik and Midgard! Three shall go, no more no less! And return with him or not return at all and nowhere! HEHEHEHE!!!... ejem, - switching his voice- Well that was all. Now i wish to speak to your both prisoners if you dont mind?
Jarl Thonnen was not in position of say anithing about it. One of the courtesans, however, answered to the oracle:
-That it's just supertitious! Blasphemy! You are outrightly insane! You should be aprehend... * poof *
Croak... croack...
In middle of his speech, the Oracle had extended his right hand to the impertinent one and had turned him onto a horrible and fat toad. Everybody made a run for it, someone even forgetting about their children, who went out screaming pursuing their familiars. Jarl Thonnen, temblorously, grabbed the keys of the chains from his dismayed guardsman's chief, and opened both locks. Then he left to his chambers, walking, shivering as jelly.
-You have not time at all! - Said the oracle – Have this! – delivered a moderated size bag to Jorven– There you will find three objects what will be essential for you to return an accomplish your quest! The first one is the "Rune of Loki" : who receive it by hand shall spoke the same tongue that the giver, but dont overuse it or there will be consequences! The second is the "Girdle of Jörmungandr", what will make you able to push or pull any object no matter his weight or mass, but you will not be able to do the same with objects who weights less than you! And the third... is the Eye of Loki, a medallion who must be put to an "Avatar of Loki" or wont work at all. By all means you must make him to wear it, or you'll never come back!
-But who's that? How we will recognize him? - asked Jorven.
-You will be identical to the people you must find! Even Narvik! And the medallion will tell you who is his avatar! Now go! I'll open the Bifrost for you! Grab Narvik on the next hall and head to the shore, to your Drakkar!
Jorven and Fjonn didn't needed a second command. Went to that room and found Narvik, almost blue, lying onto a bed, breathing faintly, slowly dying.
-You can't pass here! A druid intercepted Jorven.
Jorven didn't even bothered on words, and dropped him with a single punch; no one else objected anymore and Fjonn took Narvik; then the boys made a run for the ship on the shore.
Were intercepted by Sven, Jorven's little brother. Was heading to the Jarl's palace ready and armored to the theet with leather armor, helmet, sword, spear and shield!
-Jorven! -said- I came to release you from captivity, but i see you already... where are you going?! Wait! - and ran behind them.
-No time, Sven! We have to leave fast!
- I'll go with you! But, what happened to Narvik? And what happened to your torso?! Are you alright?!
-Sven, go home! - said a upsetting Jorven - You can't come with us! It's dangerous!
-Are you kidding?- said almost breathless- You two will sail the Drakkar alone?
-We have done it before, anyways, now leave!- ordered roughly.
-No way! I will go with.. oh no!
As they arrived to the shore, saw a black submarine shadow getting close to the shore, too, and when it arrived to a shallow water revealed, for the horror of all the people who was working peacefully out there, a pair of huge tentacles trying to get Narvik... again!
-It's the Krakeeen!!! - cried an old fisherman, and the hysteria broke loose. everybody screaming and running somewhere, no matter where really. The guardsmans present there were static and without knowing what to do. But the Kraken was not interested at all on them, but had only a single target. Then he grabbed with one of his tentacles the small wooden pier where was Narvik's Drakkar tied, blocking the path.
-Oh no! If he gets the pier we'll be done! - Said Fjonn. But Sven went ahead of the group and forward to the tentacle.
-Sven! Don't!- Yelled Jorven.
The little Sven put the top of his spear beneath the tentacle and started pushing upwards. The horrid beast screeched underwater, but the trick worked and the critter removed his tentacle from the path.
-Go, Jorven! Quickly! Before it comes back!
The four boys passed and boarded the Drakkar, Fjonn cut the ties with an onboard axe. But then, a single long tentacle grabbed the boat from a side. Jorven was busy accomodating Narvik, and Fjonn trying to maneuver the big boat. Sven saw they were without options, so, he stepped down and drew his sword.
-Return safely, brother! Care yorself, Fjonn! - he screamed towards the Drakkar, and started chopping. Every blow made the beast screech on pain and anger, but didn't loose a inch at all; but at the fifht blow, Sven had enough, and focusing all his little strength and despair, yelled:
-Let my brother go, monsteeer !!!
And with that blow a large piece of Kraken was cut, and the beast screeched on unprecedented agony. Fjonn, while maneuvering, yelled at a blood stained, exhausted but happy Sven:
-Good job Sven! Bravely done!
Jorven went out from the lower deck and saw Sven's feat, and he couldn't be more proud of his little brother. They both saw each other at a moderate distance, and Sven could see his brother's smile of proud. He was so happy for that! At last his brave big brother looked at him as a pair, and a worthy warrior!
The vengeance of the Kraken was swift, and a concealed tentacle under the pier grabbed Sven from his waist and liftened up. Jorven yelled with horror:
-Sven! Nooo!
The creature dragged Sven's little body to his mouth beneath water: had learned the lesson that Jorven taught it not so long ago.
-Let him go! Let him go! - Jorven yelled desperately. Fjonn saw the situation, grabbed the axe and threw it at the base of the tentacle, making a bullseye! The beast launched Sven to the sands of the shore, leaving him on very bad shape. Sensing his new prey was there, stunned, raised another of his tentacles above him to smash him. That tentacle was too far away for anyone to do something about it.
Sven regained some of conciousness only to see that bulk raising above him. He musitated.
-I go.. to Valhalla now... my loved Jorven... - and fainted.
Fjonn had to grab Jorven to avoid him to jump out the boat and try to rescue his brother. And with that all would have been lost. But then, when they thougth Sven was done for, two fireballs crossed the sky and disintegrated on a huge explosion the tentacle, spreading litter everywhere. Followed a dense arrow volley against the beast leaded by Jarl Thonnen himself and his army, who grabbed Sven and got him to safety; then ordered:
-Go for the beast! Attack!
Then they saw at some distance, over a nearby cliff, the blind Oracle, raising his hands, and speaking to their minds "Follow the first lights you find when you arrive there, no matter what. Remember, you only have three moons to save Narvik and find the Avatar of Loki. Good luck! And... hold fast onto something solid..."
Following, a whirlpool opened beneath them and everything started to distortionate and shine as they were inside the sun himself. Fjonn pushed himself, with Jorven embraced, onto the lower deck to get something to hold.
And, then, they travelled.
