So, way back on the old dreambook I started up a progressive story. The idea was one person would post a bit of a story then another would add to it then another and we would all take turns building a story together sorta like an improv group.

The first attempt went pretty well, with quite a few people contributing, until one guy started trying to add in a bunch of inappropriate stuff and got chewed out my Jonathan. After that one of the other contributors and I restarted the story and it went much better until that that one guy got involved again. To be fair he did a much better job of keeping his sections PG-13 that time around, but he kept pushing the limits, adding in more and more characters, and generally dragging the story off course, which broke the rythem we had built.

Thanks to Anthony, I've been able to go track these old post down and I was thinking I might try and salvage them into a proper story.

I've been working on the story, but life stops for no one. I think I'm gonna be ready to post the first part of it soon though.

It's definitely been fun going through everything and sanding up the rough edges.

Chapter 1

Niklas lay in his bed still half asleep. Summer vacation would start in one week but for now it was Saturday morning. The sun had crept into his window not long ago and Niklas expected one or more of his friends to come calling soon. Unable to wait for summer vacation to come, he and his friends had made plans to go camping this weekend. As excited as he was to dive into summer, his bed was just a little too comfy to get out of just yet. It was than that he heard a floorboard creak just outside his door.

Hoping that it was one of his friends coming to call as he hoped, and not his annoying sister Tina looking to be nosey, Niklas rolled over and feigned sleep to see what would happen. It must have been Fabian or Jason because he heard the door to his room slowly creak open. It was hard to keep from looking or smiling as he heard stealthy footsteps creeping toward his bed.

"Do you really think he's still asleep?" Niklas heard Jason whisper.

"I don't," Fabian replied just as silently, "I remember the last time."

"So let's not use the shower this time," Jason replied.

"So what does that leave us?" Fabian asked.

"Well, this time,” Jason answered, “I'm thinking... TICKLE TORTURE!" Even as he said it, he scrambled onto Niklas' bed to hold his hands while Fabian leaped up to sit on his legs.
"I'm awake!!" Niklas shouted.
"We know!" said Jason.
"Tough luck! It’s time for vengeance!" laughed Fabian and pulled up Niklas' pajama top. "Hey, nice ribs! Say good-bye to them, Nicky!"

"No! Please!" Niklas screamed between gasps of laughter as he struggled against his friends. Managing to get one hand free from Jason, he tried to defend himself to no avail. After a few minutes Fabian stopped allowing Niklas to catch his breath.
"Bastards!" Niklas gasped with a huge grin on his face.
"Well we had to be sure you were awake," Fabian insisted, “and I hadn’t forgotten about last summer.”
"Yep," Jason nodded with a grin before Fabian finished then looked away with a small grin when he saw Fabian eyeing him. He had also been the instigator of the event his friend was now referring too. "Anyways,” Jason said, looking to change the subject, “Hurry up and get dressed. Times wasting."

"Really?" Niklas asked, feigning ignorance as he slid out of bed and started to change clothes. "Where are we going?"
"Did you seriously forget..." Fabian started, clearly missing Niklas’ teasing, but he was interrupted by a low whistle from Jason as Niklas stepped out of his pajama bottoms. This earned him a look of mock-disgust from Niklas and a half-smile from Fabian.

"Anyways," Fabian started again with a slight shake of his head and that same half-smile, "We figured you would forget and sleep in, so we came to get you. We were supposed to meet everyone like an hour ago."

"An hour ago!" Niklas said in panic as his head popped out of his tee shirt, "I didn’t think it was that late! I have to get my stuff together!" He ran towards the door intent on getting his tent from the basement.

"Hey Nik," Jason called after him, stopping Niklas just short of opening the door, "You might try putting some pants on first unless you want me whistling at you all day."

"And be quick about," Fabian added, "The others are waiting."

"It looks like oatmeal bars for breakfast..." Niklas muttered as he hopped slightly off-balance to hurriedly get into jeans he had picked up off the floor. The other two boys looked at each other with a grin as Niklas hopped out his bedroom door fastening his belt as he went. He raced through the kitchen on his way to the basement, when his mother stopped him.

"Goodness, Niklas, why such a hurry?" she asked.

"Mom, the camping trip is today! I've got to get ready!"

"Slow down! You need to have breakfast first."

"But..."

"Didn’t you say the other boys aren't meeting you until 10:00. You have plenty of time."

Niklas looked around the kitchen. His father was looking at him over a newspaper from the kitchen table and there was a nice breakfast all ready to eat with two extra plates on the table. It wasn't even 9:00 yet! Then Niklas heard some muffled chuckling from behind him.

"You rats," Niklas muttered as he took a seat at the table.

"I'm sorry Nicky," Fabian said, "We couldn't resist."

"Your mom invited us to have breakfast once you got up," Jason explained, "and we figured if you thought you were late..." He left it hanging for Niklas to fill in.

Niklas tried to fake a scowl but failed horribly as he began laughing at his friend's genius

"It'll be hot today. Aren't you going to be uncomfortable in your jeans?" Niklas' dad asked as he looked over his son and noted that the other boys had on nylon shorts.

"I grabbed them off the floor because I thought I was late. I should've know I wasn’t."

"Didn't I tell you to clean up your room?” his mom asked as she placed a tray of pancakes on the table, “Before you leave at least clean up the floor."

Niklas looked at his two friends, who were helping themselves to the pancakes, and asked, "Want to help me clean the floor after breakfast? The sooner we get it done the faster we can meet the guys!"
“Sure Nicky, no problem,” Jason agreed on their behalf.

While he ate, Niklas went over where they planned to camp with his parents and what they planned to be doing, while ignoring Tina’s annoying questions about his plans. Unencumbered by the conversation, Fabian and Jason happily downed their breakfast. The two of them finished quickly and got up to put their dishes in the dishwasher.

"Hop to it lazy bones!" Jason teased as he and Fabian turned to head back up to Niklas’ room.

“Such good boys, cleaning up after themselves,” Niklas’ mom commented, “I’m sure they keep their rooms tidy as well.”

Niklas downed the rest of his stack quickly while rolling his eyes. He knew full well Jason’s room was probably worse than his at any given moment, though Fabian’s was usually fairly tidy. After putting his dishes away, to no fanfare from his mother, he headed up to his room to join his friends.

To his surprise, Niklas found his bedroom floor almost totally cleared of the usual mess. Fabian and Jason were at his closet, shovelling in the last of his stuff.

“Genius,” Niklas cheered his friends as he headed to his dresser to get a pair of shorts to change into, "Now I can take care of that later.”

"Yes sir!" Fabian and Jason saluted as they piled the last few items in.

Niklas changed quickly then remembered his sleeping bag was still in his closet. He turned only to see Fabian and Jason struggling to close the closet because of everything they had stuffed in there.

"Um guys, I kinda need to get in there," Niklas said trying to suppress a fit of laughter.

Fabian and Jason stopped in mid push and turned to give Niklas a look that said, "You've got to be kidding!" With exaggerated shrugs they turned around to start throwing things back out of the closet. Niklas quickly found his sleeping bag, but the floor was in an even worse mess.

"Niklas! Are you about ready?" That was his mom. He hoped she wasn't coming to check out his room!

"Sure, mom! Just about!" Niklas called back from a room that looked like a hurricane had passed through for a visit.
"It sounds like a herd of elephants up there,” she replied, “Are you sure everything is okay?"

"Oh, man! If she walks in here..." Fabian muttered as he and Jason tossed all manner of stuff from the floor back into the closet.

“Yep,” Niklas yelled back, “No problem, um... don’t come up here!” He bit his tongue as the last few words came out of his mouth. If there was one way to make sure his mother came up to check on them it was calling out those words.

Niklas did he best to help his friends get everything back into the closet, but with all three of them at the door they quickly got in each other’s way. Struck by inspiration, Niklas instead starting pushing everything closer to the closet for Fabian and Jason to shovel back in. Just as they shoved the closet door closed, Niklas’ bedroom door opened.

Niklas’ mom gave the room a critical eye, the kind only a mother suspecting her child was up to something could muster. Niklas was sure that if his life were a cartoon, his closet door would be comically staining to burst open at that moment. Thankfully the actual telltale sign of three adolescent boys standing awkwardly by said closet door seemed to go unnoticed.

“Very good boys,” his mom said finally, “I don’t know what all the fuss was about. Clearly Niklas needs you two to give him lessons on room cleaning.”

The three boys smirked at the praise. Niklas knew full well if his mother opened his closet all three of them would get an earful. For the moment though they were clear to leave and head out for their camping trip.

After retrieving his tent from the basement as he had originally planned before getting shanghaied by his mom to clean his room, Niklas found his friends waiting for him by the front door, both with their own bags strapped on and ready to go. Ready at last, the three headed out to get their bikes. Finally they were on their way to meet up with their other friends and start their summer, even if they still had a week of school to go.

So this is all inspired by, if not taken directly from, the progressive story I helped write on the old Dreambook. There were a couple more parts posted after the boys left Niklas' house, but there was that one contributor I mentioned earlier who was getting involved again and it became a real mess.

All in all, I feel like this could serve as a nice one off story, but I did start it off with "Chapter One". I might do more but I'd also be open to other's contributing to it in the spirt of its origins.

Let me know what you guys think.

Nice start. I'll have to read it with the due time and mood… which is not now I just started -again- some nosebleeding without any obvious reason. Had it all along my life…

See you…
