Came across this comic on Webtoons a few months ago. Sorta reminded me of Niklas and Friends at first, but eventually got into some super intense topics requiring some chapters to be put up with disclaimers. It's a really good read though. Unfortunately the author has scaled back publishing to once a month for personal reasons.

Anyways I saw a post here talking about continuing or doing a spin off of Niklas and Friends, possibly with some more intense themes, and figured I'd mention KIDDOS as maybe a point of reference along that line.

I had a look. Unknown to me… but the Web is so wide!
Browsed a handful of the (numerous) issues. This one looks a good start for a Niklas plot… but the author certainly is experiencing and had experienced BAD situations  😣
I saw self-hate and other troubles… guess this is what you referred to as 'intense'.
Not exactly cheerful. Here at Niklas', everything usually turns to "And he (they) lived happily ever after, to the end of his (their) days" to quote Bilbo Baggins  😊

Something which would be suited (and useful) would be based on a real-life experience from someone who started with such troubles, and managed to overcome them.

@lyel absolutely, KIDDOS definitely goes to some dark places and I'm hoping the author is working towards happy endings for all involved.

I think the tone difference definitely speaks to the growing trend of sinking into these darker places when it comes to story telling these days. Part of my excitement in seeing new life being breathed into Niklas and Friends is exactly what you said, getting to see these characters get their happy ending. That's not to say these stories haven't had their share of bittersweet but working towards better. Keith and Jonathan are good examples of this.

Well… not my trend 😆 Things are dark enough out there!!! But this would certainly make more dramatic stories. Now… we just need to find someone able to build and write such stories!

I've dabbled in writing myself. Coming up with the beginning and the end always seems the easiest thing to do. It's the middle part I always have an issue with, trying to balance the building conflict with the happy resolution I want.

Great you have some experience in writing!
I built several stories, for example my own "My Friend is an Alien" currently being published here, but I don't claim to be a writer!!

Not easy for sure…

Well, I don't know if you have read stories by Andrew, from the proboards forum... He definitely goes deeper into the "drama", while using it as a way to develop and grow the characters involved. He wrote both about original Niklas&Friends characters and about some really interesting ones of his own creation, but based in the Niklas universe, and interacting with Niklas and the other boys sometimes.  I've got all his works collected, I'll post them at some point here, after I do some language corrections to the first chapters (he was learning English as he wrote, and while the later chapters are proper, the first ones could use some slight redaction).

One of his stories (with some art from Ravengrim) I've already sent to Jeremy, Still waiting for him to publish it somewhere on the site. It's a fully Niklas&Friends tale, with some Vikings involved 😉

May have come through them… can't tell. Ravengrim I know and he drew some art for me 🙂

Rings some bells… I may have seen some illustrations.

Jeremy seems pretty busy these days 🙁
